when the games and apps require the use of more bandwidth than agp 4x bus can offer then you will see a difference
until then the difference will prob remain around 5%
next years games should be fun and actuall shoot the difference up a bit (ie: 15 or more %)
don't worry yur agp 4x board isn't gonna be totally obsolete :) :)

My Radeon 9700pro is cruz'n on agp 4x, and even though the Geforce FX will be faster I doubt it will take advantage of the extra bandwidth, because the 9700pro doesn't.

Even with the sophistication of the GeForce FX, its a proven fact that even that card will not saturate the AGP 4.0 specification. Another generation or two in video cards down the line and then AGP 8x will become usefull. As of now, it is simply a marketing technique.

Doubt it. AGP(X)x makes little difference, at least not nearly as much as (X) would imply.

There probably won't be enough difference to worry about it. However for the sake of being future-proof it might pay to shop around for an AGP x8 motherboard if you're getting a brand new one anyway.
