Will a Windows 8 trial installation be upgradeable to retail?

With a hardware upgrade looming I will be doing a clean OS install anyway and since I've already decided that I will be switching to Windows 8, I am considering of giving the trial flavour a go. However I am not too keen on the idea of having to go through the drudgery of a clean install again once the retail version arrives. So, should I wait till next year or what? (curently with Win7)

Does anyone know if the consumer preview will be able to update to the release candidate without a fresh install?

Well that was the question just asked and answered.😛

In any case the official answer is no. However it's quite likely that you'll be able to force it to do an upgrade install by mucking with the config files for the installer. Win7 and WinVista betas had the same official restrictions, and generally speaking both were able to be safely updated in this fashion.
