Question Will a SSD drive that plugs into a mobo slot work in my mobo .. Sabretooth Z77 ??

That motherboard doesn't have a M.2 slot.

You could buy a PCIe M.2 add-in card, and it likely would work (BIOS needs to support it). However, you're better off just buying a 2.5" SATA SSD (cheaper, will work for sure, and you won't notice any difference especially on an older chipset motherboard without native NVMe support).

Ahhh, thanks much....... trying to get up to speed on SSD drives and such ....
I'd just buy a 500 GB drive such as the Samsung 850 EVO, Crucial MX500, WD Blue 3D NAND, or SK Hynix Gold S31 drive. They all are in the $50 - $60 range.

If you don't have a SSD now, they are the absolute best upgrade you can make to your PC. They all will make it super-responsive compared to a hard drive.

I have a ASRock extreme 4 z77 boot up a HP EX950 M.2 2280 in pci_e slot.
I used the latest bios and the m2 must be set to GPT not MBR.
