Will A Serial IR remote work over Parallel?

I want to get one of these for my laptop, but its a serial connection, and I dont have a serial port. I was wondering if anyone knew if attempting to connect it to the parallel port with an adapter would do anything, or if using my laptops built in IR port would work. It needs a Com port... so Im thinking no, but <shrug>.

How about a USB serial port? Would that work for you? It did for me for a different serial device for my laptop.

An Alternative -- Shop around for a better price.

OR

What are you using your PCMCIA slots for? They make serial adaptors for them too.
