Will a peltier do any good in my system - what do you think?

I have a TBird1000@1150 on an Asus A7V133@135 (256MB Micron CL-2) which runs at 53-57 full Seti load and won't go higher. I use an Alpha 6035 with a selfmade duct and a Pabst 80mm 26cfm fan. Because I don't want to make my system any louder, I thought about using a peltier to let my TBird reach 1200. I know using a peltier can be tricky, but at the time being I just wanted to ask you, if it is worth the work and money.

Not without alot of troubles. And just to get the extra 50mhz...I wouldnt do it.
Besides that you would probably need 100w+ pelt to cool it enough. Then you would need to use water cooling on top of that.
For the Xtra 50 mhz i would buy a 1ghz @1400 from compuwiz before i would try that. Then water/peltier cool that cpu to get to the 1500 mark ;)

Good luck

Can I buy your dead T-bird for $10 when your done;). Just a reality check. I've bought 4 t-birds from other members so far, for key chains. Hope you don't take offense to me posting here. I have 2 peltiers sitting in my drawer, i just don't have the kahoney's to use them. Again I just don't see the benefit when you factor in the risk. Sell your T-bird you have now in the for sale thread then take the money you would spend on on the peltier and buy a guaranteed one from compuwiz1. Keep the Magic smoke on the inside!:D. Just my .02. If you do the peltier keep me in mind for the keychain though K.

For a peltier setup to work on current generation CPUs you must have some very high wattage peltiers and water cooling to get rid of the heat. Yes, a 72W peltier will warm up an Alpha P126 heatsink (w/o having a CPU, just a copper block). I have done this on an experiment. Water blocks pull away some impressive amounts of heat quite quickly.

Just get a $150 mini-fridge and put a water tank in it and have a water cooler-cooling setup :)

Don't do it!! Peltier cooling is not worth the risk. If you think your case gets hot with a Thundrebird, wait untill you put a huge additional heat source in there--the cooler. A dozen fans may not be enought. So you water cool the cooler. Sounds interesting- a refrigerator, pumps, tubing, etc, until one of your frends opens the frig to get a beer and kinks a hose or screws up the pump. Disaster. Fried T bird. And don't forget every motherboards friend, a puddle of condensated water.

use semi rigid tubing :)

Edit: oh, and I'm working on an idea to use a 120mm Panaflow fan that I have laying around as a blowhole but with a funnel shaped duct to blow the air over the heatsink. 75F room temp air is much more effective (esp. at the massive CFM) than 85F case air :)

The current CPU fan will be there incase I open the sides up while running :D

Well thanks anyway.

Of course I have thought about getting rid of my Tbird and buying one of those f*****g hot AXIAs, but the problem is I live in Germany, so Compuwiz is no help for me. I will probably just wait a few weeks/months, I think by then all TBirds have the high quality standard as the AXIAa.
