Will a PCI-E 1x slot accept traditional PCI cards ?

In changing to a new system, I would have a definite need for the use of an Adaptec 2940 UWW PCI SCSI card.

Will the PCI-E 1x slot accept this card ?

I don't think so. Most new motherboards still have PCI slots though, shouldn't be an issue.

no, it wont work. to begin it's a different spec and then there's the slot format:

and the slots are positioned at different distants from the board edge.

So if you force it in, you will most likely destroy both board and card.

So, basically, I would need to find a Mobo which has a specific PCI slot - with no other designation.

for example, has NO PCI slots , but only PCI-E

whereas
http://www.asus.com/products.a...model=2269&modelmenu=2
does seem to have good ol PCI slots.

Does this seem to make sense ?

If you go to the second URL, you will see the designations of simply "PCI" slot. Rather than PCIe or PCI 2.2.
It says:
2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots, support ATI CrossFireX? technology at x8 link
(PCIe x16_1 blue, PCIe x16_2 black*)
3 x PCI Express x1 slots
2 x PCI slots
*PCI Express x16_2 slot (black at max. x8 link)

I have the impression that when it says :
"2 x PCI slots"

the second URL means the original PCI slot.

And not the PCIe or the
PCI 2.2

Does this seem correct to others ???

PCI 2.2 is just the most recent iteration of the PCI standard. Virtually any PCI card will work in a PCI 2.2 slot, with the possible exception of some very old cards (due to changes in the power supplied by the slot).

What seems correct, is looking at the sockets..

It is clear which ones are PCI and which ones are PCIe ...

Ok, thanks, So.... if PCI 2.2 is the most recent iteration of the PCI standard, then it looks good, Aluvus.

It would be difficult to follow the relative measurements of on line manufacturers photos.

So ---- is it safe to say that the 32 bit PCI cards will work in the PCI 2.2 slots ?

White Slots = PCI.
Blue Slots = PCI-Express (x8/x16)
Tiny Black/White Slots = PCI-Express (x1/x4) [Black one is colored black for the onboard audio card]

Usually is how it is with newer Asus mobos.

The PCI slots appear to be black. However, I know understand that standard PCI slots, are backwards compatible and I appreciate the assistance
