NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Chrysler Group executives are giving serious consideration to a plan to offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on the companies vehicles, according to a newspaper report.

The Chrysler Group, part of DaimlerChrysler, informed a group of dealers about the plan but an official announcement will not come until at least next week, according to the story in the Detroit News. In the style of former Chrysler Chief Executive Lee Iacocca, DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche will announce the plan and star in a new advertising campaign, according to the report.

Customers who return their cars would still have to pay a penalty and a mileage fee, the newspaper said.

Executives plan to meet this afternoon to finalize the plan, according to the Detroit News.

The company already plans to offer an "employee pricing" incentive push this summer, according to a recent report in Automotive News, an industry newspaper

so if they did something like this would it get you to buy? i don't think i would there are no vehicles they make i really want. though i would like to see all dealerships to offer it myself.

depends on the milage fee.

but if you think about it, people might just realize how crappy some of these cars are and return them instead of getting stuck with a sebring for years.

keke, it could be pronounced like deeter

meaning many of their cars are going to be returned, and new customers have to wonder if their car is used. wonderful... thats a great way to give people peace of mind in purchasing... NOT! the first 500 miles are break in period, it has to be gentle.

So how does the dealer sell one of these cars with 1000 miles on it? Then what does that do to the value of the cars with 15,000 miles on them?

Yes, I buy Chrysler cars, although I would not buy a new one.

personally i think buying new is silly. when you can find one with 1-3k miles for a LOT less.

Sounds to me like they are reasonably sure their cars will be reliable for at least 30 days.

It's a marketing gimmick. They are no doubt going to make it extremely difficult and/or cost prohibitive to return a car once you buy it. Only a fool would buy a car based on this "incentive."

Edit-I wouldn't doubt if it was borderline illegal in some states.

No it doesn't.

I didn't need one, and I'm still happy with my Charger.

Did you order your Charger with the Daytona package or the R&T package? The base Charger seats are horrible in my opinon. I like how you can order the SRT interior on a Charger by checking the R&T box.
