Will a little dab do ya?, thermal grease on the 8KHA+ cpu temp sensor that is.

I was staring at my new epox 8KHA+ board yesterday (probably far too long I'll admit) and confirmed what I had read that the temp probe that sits in the center of the cpu mount is recessed below the level that installed cpu sits at and thus does not directly touch. I believe the this seperation that varies between models of MB's accounts for the big variation ppl report of their cpu temps. Why wouldn't a dab of thermal grease atop the probe allowing a thermal connection w/ the back of the cpu give more representative readings of the cpu temp rather than the circulating air ?

I've never heard of doing that at all. 😛 I've taken a temp monitor to my CPU, and received the exact temp that my motherboard was showing with the sensor untouched.

AkumaBao,

what kidn of temp probe did you use? If it was a digital doc type thermistor, side of core you contacted matters, as does numerous other factors. Even if it matched socket-thermistor tmeps, it does not make either right or wrong.

Paolo,

Its probably too big a gap for grease.... Grease in large clumps would not be effective. In addition, touchign the back-side PCB does not make the reading accurate. slightly better, yes, but still terribly inaccurate.
