Will a headphone amp make a difference with Ipod noise levels?

I paid $70 for these earbuds and sometimes I find myself going with generic Bantam player earbuds because of how low the volume is on these new Altec Lansing IM716's...

Would a headphone amp make a difference? I am concerned with the battery being drained on the Ipod, but the bigger concern is I simply cannot make certain songs loud enough even at max levels...

Anyone have a recommendation?
 
Grab a portable amp 2 version 2, PA2V2... $60 straight from the guy, or you can buy them off ebay...

People on Head-Fi say that its great for the entry level headphone amps...

Headphone amps run on their own batteries, but yes they can significantly increase the volume, while also increasing clarity.
