Will a hard drive rated ATA 133/100 work with a MB with only ATA 66?

Got a buddy ready to buy a new hard drive but needs to know if a hard drive rated ATA 133/100 (such as the Maxtor Model HDPMAID40GB for $86 - $89 plus shipping) would work with a motherboard that only has ATA66/33 IDE interface?

He may be wanting to upgrade this motherboard in the not too distant future to one that would handle the ATA133/100.

Yep, it'll work fine.. and probably have the same performance as a board with ata 100/133.. drives can't actually transfer files over about 45MB/sec still (unless you get some phenominal drive that I haven't heard of), so ata66 works great for now.

Thanks Josh. 🙂

He (We) were going to wait until we learned it was OK to buy that HD. I really appreciate your quick response. 😀
