Hello everyone,
I keep holding on to my now rather aged rig and I'm happy with it after recent updates.
My specs are:
Conroe 6600 @2,4 ghz dual-core about to be updated to a used Q9400 @ 2,66 ghz
Asus P5w DH deluxe (Intel 975x chipset)
2x4 gb corsair (1333 mhz as far as I remember) and 2x1 gb kingston valueram (1066 mhz, as far as I remember they've been at 1333 at ocs too)
Samsung 840 EVO 250 gb
Hitachi 750 gb hdd
Asus GF8800 GT gfx (512 MB)
Seasonic power supply (430W I think)
I don't really play that many new demanding games anymore, so all in all I'm fairly happy.
Only recent annoyance is that streaming is not that smooth. I'm hoping that the CPU upgrade will help here, but I also know that higher resolutions are coming up, so my main question is if a newer generation card will help this? (I know the 8800 GT has some acceleration, but has it improved in newer cards?
I sometimes play new'ish games, so better performance in those won't hurt either.
I'm not budget constrained, but I prefer to use my money smartly.
I plan to a major upgrade in about two years time, probably along with a 4k monitor at that point. Does it make sense to upgrade the video card before that? Possibly for a card that will carry over to my next platform.
If so I need a card thats comparatively silent, and which will not require a PSU-update.
Thanks in advance.
