So, one of my E5520's got fried somehow by putting it in an open box motherboard, which must somehow be defective.

So now I only have one, I might as well get a single socket motherboard, so I can OC it. Will it work in a GA-X58A-UD3R ? Gigabytes site doesn't have a cpu support list (that I can find)

i don't think so. It's a Xeon and it should be placed on a Xeon motherboard. I don't think it would fit in LGA1366 cause the 5520 is FCLGA1366

Well, it doesn't work...

So I ordered a 950 for it, and a P6T WS Pro for the E5520. (only says E5504,E5505,E5506, but those are just single socket versions of the 5520) Think this one will work ??

Edit: I found the cpu support list, and the E5520 is on it !

I don't get it, they are the same chipset motherboard and the same date (now) as far as build date, and the cpu has been around a while, and one works, yet the other doesn't.

if the microcode isn't in the BIOS, it won't post.

On a side note, have you tried contacting a manufacturer? I sent a few messages to Asrock and they sent me a beta BIOS to run my L5609 within a few days.

+1, try it. If no dice contact the manufacturer.
