Will a duron 1Ghz do 1.33Ghz (266FSB) ??

RU482

Lifer
I am curious if a duron 1Ghz can easily be overclocked to 1.33Ghz by bumping the FSB speed from 100 (200) to 133 (266).

I'm going to be using an Abit NV7M Nforce mobo

i have 950 duron @ 113 mhz ... i have been checking websites about duron cpus..

250 mhz seems to be the limit for duron when u overclock without volt mod..

so i think u can get 1200 or 1250..
i don't think u can get 1330 with durons..
but u can try..

According to Overclockers.com the average overclock of a Morgan 1GHz is 1245MHz. Tha sound about right, my kids have one running on a KT7 at 1209MHz on 1.85v. The same cpu hit 1296MHz on my Epox 8K7A but it took 2.18v.

with WCing I can run my 1 gig morgan at 10x133 with stock voltage! I ran it at 11.5x133 just to beet the record at overclockers.com...screeny @

(If link doesn't work, which most likely will happen do this:
remove a "w" from www.....then hit enter, should come up blank again, put the "w" back and hit enter again. Should work, geocites sucks but trick works for me.)

(also you may need to DL the pick to view it better, IE scales it down.)

Running like that required a lot of voltage and I didn't like it, so I run it at 158x9 and it's nice, 9.5 will work but again I need to pump in a lot more voltage then I want.

Durons rock, maybe I've just gotten great chips though....my 750 would do over a gig no sweat.....

This is really two different questions. Most Duron 1gigs seem to max in the 1200-1300mhz range. At 10x multiplier this means only 120-130FSB (x2), but if you unlock the multiplier then you can probably get 8x150 out of that 1200mhz. I have mine running 8.5x148 @ 1.9V, and I max out at 8x156 when I use crappy mem timings (don't ask, the benchmarks are the same in both situations but the 8.5x148 is stable at lower voltage).

My Duron 1gig maxes at 1200Mhz @ 1.75V, 1220 @ 1.80V, 1240 @ 1.90V, 1260 @ 1.95V and 1280 @ 2.1V. In short, there is a definite threshhold around 1200Mhz where additional voltage doesn't matter much. Some people might be lucky but I think these are pretty normal results.

All Durons are commonly overclocking between 1200 and 1300MHz on the 0.18 micron aluminium technology which is defined by the limits of that technology. Their performance is not defined by arbitrary rules of thumb.
Now there are some rumours around saying that the retail box Durons overclock better than OEM versions. Does anybody have one to report on?

How do you unlock the Duron / Morgan 1.0GHz? do you have to fill in any gaps Or do you just have to pencil in the L1's like the good 'ol days?

What's the default voltage for this CPU (Duron 1.0GHz)?

No, 1GHz Morgan Durons hits a wall at around 1.2GHz. It isn't 100% warrantied that it will hit 1.33GHz, just unlocked the CPU.

Yes, you should close the L1 bridges. You can use a pencil, or a more permanent solution is to use the conductive ink from say a rear window defogger kit. Default voltage on 1gig Duron is 1.75V.

a duron 1 GHz rig that i recently built up 2 weeks ago easily posts and boots into Windows 2000 at 1333 MHz, but it was not stable at all. I really couldnt push it any further as i was using the ECS K7S5A motherboard, with shipping BIOS, so i just wanted to see if it could be done. Now if i werent using the retail hs/fan with thermal pad, i am sure i could have stabilized the chip for 1333. I was sort of surprised to see if boot and run applications to begin with.

my $0.02 ....

Heh, well I should have the answer to your questions coming...

I recently ordered: Epox 8kha+, Duron 1ghz, copper shim, GC68 HSF.. Cant wait to see what it'll do 🙂
