This is the first time I've had to travel with my DC and I'm not checking it in since the airlines don't cover any damage to cameras.

Can a Digital Camera safely go through the Xray if I carry it on??

you can let discs and harddrives and even film go through. its not the xrays that harm the stuff, its the big @$$ magnets in the motor. so don't put your crap near the motor.

and a digicam is usually completely solid state, so there is no problem at all there. compact flash isn't affected.

that's a good question.

I usually carry my laptop with me. They said it's safe to let laptop go thru.

Is there anything that should not go thru it?

So, how the hell do I do this? It feeds your carry-ons through by itself.

I'd say put in the middle of the conveyor belt?

a friend of mine did some experimenting with speaker magnets, and even a hard drive is pretty hard to screw up. maybe a floppy, since they're lower quality, but who uses those anyway?

Can I avoid sending it through and just showing them.

yeah i suppose you could but sometimes the security people don't let you and the people behind you will hate you and all sorts of other things and its not gonna screw up your digicam anyway since its solid state.

hard drives. floppies. technically CDs aren't either but an it takes a bit more than a wimpy magnetic field or some xrays to mess it up.

Here's an idea. Go in with a gun and say, "I have a gun and a digital camera. Let me pass, I don't want the magnetic fields in the conveyor belt to ruin my camera. Thank you."

<< So what items are not Solid State? >>

Solid State refers to non moving items, like the Dimaond Rio MP3 players. There is nothing that moves inside. Unlike compact disk players that need "shock" protection when something shakes it, solid state devices won't get affected.

I've read an article from a photography magazine that the x-ray will have negative effect on those normal films. But the review is for pro, who take pictures for living. As for most of us, we might not notice anything different. The article didn't say anything about digicam.

DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO BELIEVE THEM!!! Dont let them put it through the x-ray machine, it will wreck the film in your digital camera!! Not many people know they use film!!! LOL!! :p
