Will a computer Post without RAM or a HD installed?

I am wondering if a computer will go through the POST sequence if the RAM and/or a HD is NOT installed......

One more question for extra credit....😛

I have a MSI K8N Neo4 mobo with a Opteron 165 dual core processor. The only other component connected is the video card. The RAM is not installed, nor are any HD's.

When I power up, all the fans kick on, including the fan's connected to the motherboard. I do not get ANY beep error codes whatsoever, but I know the motherboard is getting power.

Should I at the very least be receiving beep error codes even when the RAM isn't present? If so, could a dead CMOS battery prevent error codes from sounding?

depends on motherboard model. lots of mbs wont beep, just turn on fans and sit there.

My RAM won't get here until Tuesday (thanks to the MLK holiday tomorrow).
