I went to pick up a gold orb to cool my P3 a bit, i get home open the box and it's a chrome orb for socket 462...#@%^@^@^&...so I called the guy up and he's like "Oh it's fine, it works we tested it." So....basically, is he full of crap? or will it be ok to use it?

I'm not sure whether it'll work or not, but if you paid for a Golden Orb, take the Chrome Orb back and get a Golden Orb.

Socket 462 (Socket A Athlons) chips, for which the Chrome Orb was designed for, run at much higher temperatures than Socket 370 (FC-PGA P!!!/Celeron) chips. My guess is that it would work, but why not get what you paid for, unless you are and then some.

the clip tension is also supposed to be greater with the chrome orb(AMD specs) than a gorb so your more likely to do harm to your socket attachment points. best to get it exchanged!

Technically the Pentium IIIs come in FC-PGA form. :)

If I were you I would consider getting a better heatsink like the Globalwin FOP32, or if you don't mind a lot of noise, the Globalwin WBK38.
