will a C2D or C2Q be a bottleneck for a GTX460?

I like the 1GB for the extra memory and bandwidth.
will it be a good match for a lower end system like a C2D E7200 overclocked to 3GHz?

resolution currently is 1920x1200, possibly to a 2560x1600 in the coming year.

In general at 25x16 you can guarantee the GPU will be the performance limiter. Some quad-loving CPU-hungry titles won't run that great regardless, but for the most part you'll be more than fine. We're talking 4890 performance here -- and that's a very good match for a 3ghz dual.

so if it's only 4890 level performance, what does it offer over it?
DX11, lower power consumption/heat... anything else?

OpenCL, OpenGL 4.0, PhysX, Cuda, 3D Vision, better image quality...

So for most people basically nothing unfortunately. Not the cards fault; its just unfortunate that the best looking game out now is 3 years old. Also am I out of date or is PhysX still useless?

GTX460 isn't going to cut it at 2560x1600. It was discussed previously that 5850 overclocked to 5870 speeds is going to be much faster than the GTX460 at that resolution: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2089113&highlight=voo&page=4

This is esp true since GTX470 can't keep up with 5870 at 2560x1600. So if you plan to move to 2560x1600, unless you want to SLI 460s, then 5850 is miles better at that rez.
