Will a black mouse pad affect optical mouse tracking?

The colour should not matter a lot. The LED of an optical mouse is bright enough for any sort of colour absorbtion going on dependent on the colour of mouse pad. However the reflectivity, texture of mouse pad, and smoothness does play more important roles.

The description of your mousepad does say excellent working with optical mouse. I do however recommand specially designed optical mouse pads.

But they do cost quite a lot and I'd frankly say don't like them made of glass or steel

The color will not effect it. I have a black FUNC and there are no problems with the optical mouse I use.

I have a somewhat glossy black textured mousepad that I had to start using because my optical mouse was leaving little marks on my cheapo computer desk. Everyonce in a while the mouse just seems to flip out and it never did that on the desk. I would suggest something with a dull surface.
