I was wondering if I used and adapter to put a 92 or 120 mm fan on my stock sempron64 2600 will I get decent results or do just need another heatsink. Running a 49c now.

49c idle or load? If load, you have nothing to worry about.

If that's your idle temp, it's pretty hot. The first thing you should do is worry about cooling your case. If you've got an intake and exhaust fan, try clearing cables out of the way that can impact your airflow. Do a google search for case cooling and you'll get some good ideas.

Instead of modding a 120mm fan onto your stock heatsink you should look into an aftermarket heatsink. At the top of this forum list there's a great thread with reviews. Check out the XP-90, it's one of the best all-around heatsinks for price and weight.

actually a 49c load temp is kinda getting up in the high region.
Sure you have nothing to worry about, but....

I would be happier with something in the high 30`s........

General speaking you will see minimal results switching to a larger fan...

Good Luck!!

yeh 49c at idle and I changed out the stock paste with Artic Silver 5. I have run memtest on both stick of memory and they pass and I am running a prime test right now. I've built a lot of computers but this is my first socket 754. I had trouble getting xp pro to load and that usually means either memory or cpu problems. With both sets of memory in I was having lots of restarts. But with on stick I had no trouble. I may try reseating the heatsink. Thanks. Also what is the stock coolers general temps.

changed out the paste for some zalman i had and it is still running at 49c. The Artic Silver was almost like glue, but it had a good coverage.

never apply too much AS5 or you WILL rip out your processor when removing heatsink. I already did it and it scared the hell out of me.
