Agreed, YES

802.11G is completely compatible with 802.11B.

Are you considering for buying? Do you already have a 802.11B router? Chances are, you'll be completely fine, but I recommend buying the same brand

Why get a G card if all your other peripherials are going to be B? Your speed downgrades that to B if you're going to be connecting it to B equipment.

And isn't B just 11Mpbs, not 22?

The Wireless Entry Level Arena is somewhat of a Twilight Zone sooner or later it is going to be mostly 802.11g and many people rather spend more now than spending twice.

I take dual approach.

If money is an issue right now get one of the Cheappo 802.1 b that you can find.

Example: EZ Connect 802.11b Wireless PCMCIA Network Adapter. $19,99 after rebate.

If you search more you can find good "Old" Proxim PCMCIA cards for as low as $10.

Otherwise I would invest in an 802.11g knowing that before I upgrade the rest of the system I would get 801.11b performance for 801.11g price.

P.S. The D-Link 22Mbs/sec. scheme is not very reliable, many time it will not work. However it is very reliable with the 11Mb/sec. setting.

I believe the G standard is still in draft stage. What you buy now may not be the standard when it finally does become standardize.

IEEE standardized 802.11g back in June.

I have the D-Link 614+ wireless router with the Airplus card. Runs at 44 Mbps with driver and firmware upgrade. Works great. Cheap too!
