Will a 6600GT be able to handle a 1900x1200 LCD?

Reviews seem to indicate that the 6600GT can handle 1600x1200 with high quality graphics but no AA or AF in most games.

If you are running with this setup, I would like to hear your thoughts on it.

Thanks

I think you will be ok..

What CPU/MOBO and Ram do you have or will have behind it?

You may have to drop SOME of your settings down, but @ 1900x1200 it will look pretty damn good..

I honestly doubt it. With a 6800NU with the pipes and vertex enabled. HL2 1600*1200 was ok most of the time but it would have some slowdowns once in a while and of course no AA or AF. A 6600gt with only 8 pipes would struggle pretty bad at 1600*1200. 1900*1200 would be too much. get a 6800gt or a x800pro.

I don't think it'll do it too well. I guess I don't know how much turning off all AA and AF will help. But, my 6800NU is unlocked and can do 16801050 -tolerably-. Those extra pipes help in newer games.

That's true..

But he will not have to run high settings, 1920x1200 could even out the gap between higher quality settings and lower quality settings.

If you haven't bought it yet, i would agree a 6800GT would be a better purchase.

I ran HL2 on my PC and got tolerable performance:

AMD 64 3000+
1GB PC3200 (clocked to 2700 because my mobo is a pos)
XFX 6600GT

I played HL2 at 1600x1200 and it was pretty good MOST of the time. I used 4xAA and 2xAF, with all of the settings on max, except for "Reflect World" instead of "Reflect All." I would get from 60-130FPS indoors, and about 40-90FPS outside.

To be honest, unless you have an LCD that must play at that resolution, you would be better off playing at a lower resolution. If you play @ 1280x1024 it looks really nice, and your FPS will definately go up. If you are concerned about getting amazing framerates as opposed to the performance😀ollar ratio, then just get a 6800GT or 6800 Ultra, you would be much happier.

It is very playable on the 6600GT, but it is much better @ a slightly lower resolution.

If you had smaller resolutions in mind, the 6600GT is a great performer.

But if you want all the pretty AA and AF and high resolutions, you need to spend more money.

I have the 6600GT and I bought it instead of a 6800 because of those facts.

I'm happy with it though. Great upgrade for me from a Geforce4 Ti 4200 128meg.

I can't run in high resolutions (older monitor) and I don't need all the AA and AF.

You get what you pay for.

Good luck.

The answer seems to be not really. Options:
1. 6600GT with a lower resolution or
2. 6800GT

If only 6800GT PCI-Express cards were readily available at or below MSRP...

Thanks for your help.

I have a Radeon 9800pro and played HL2 at 1600x1200 high everything including reflections no AA no AF no problems. Only a few hairy areas dipped into the mid to high 20s. All else stayed above 40fps.

So... I dont think you will have too much of a problem with 1900x1200 on the 6600GT as long as the DVI RAMDAC can support that much information. I read somewhere where different video cards could support 1900x1200 better than others.

My laptop w/ a slow laptop 9700 pushes 1920x1200 quite nicely in DX8 games, even w/ AF. The 6600GT is like 3 speed steps above, so I'm sure you'd be fine.
