Will a 60gb WD IDE Drive work with Intel PCIset 82371EB?

Allright I am selling a 60 hard drive on ebay 7200RPM IDE (western digital)
A potential customer emailed me a question concerning his computer
His old hard drive died
It was a 5.25" Quantum Bigfoot, 12GB, IDE, 4000rpm, 39-pin
He doesnt know the motherboard make but the chipset is Intel PCIset 82371EB
He has a pentium 2 and windows 2000
Do you think this 40-pin IDE Drive will work with his computer/motherboard?
Thanks

that sounds like the IDE controler on one of the 440 series of chipsets eg BX, FX, or LX, at a guess it really depends on his motherboards bios and how old it is, if he has a BX board w/ a fairly recent bios, he should prolly be ok, if he has an older bios it's a crapshoot on getting the system to rec. newer make drives, but in any event the WD drive is ata 100 and his board only supports ata 33 so even if it would work, it would cripple the drives performance, so he'd be much better off getting an IDE card to go w/ the new drive. Hope this helps.... 🙂

If not , use a drive overlay such as EZ-Drive to format drive to 60gbytes OR pre-format the drive before sending.
