Last weekend my 4th gen ipods middle select button stopped working and I thought it finally gave up the ghost after many years of service, but I figured I'd take it apart and see if it was fixable before tossing it out.
I noticed that the reason the button would no longer work was because the battery was bulging and since it sits behind the click button it was creating so much pressure that the button was no longer able to depress.
I only use this ipod with a speaker dock in my room and it's always on that dock and has power, which is I'm sure part of the reason why the battery is screwed. But I'm wondering if I completely remove the battery by disconnecting it from the ipod, will it even work at all?
