Will a 450W PSU handle the Radeon 7850?

My current PC configuration:
-Intel Core i5 3470
-Gigabyte GA-H77M-D3H
-Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600Mhz
-Corsair VS450
-Seagate 2TB

I've zeroed down on the Radeon HD7850, but i'm worried about the supposed '500W or greater' PSU requirement I've read in most places. I'm sure that my VS450 is a good quality power supply, but can it provide sufficient grunt to run the 7850 alongwith my other components? The PSU bottleneck is why I'm not going in for the 7870 (which I can get for a couple of thousand rupees extra), which I understand has a higher TDP than the 7850's 130W.

I'm looking to crossfire in the future, so a new PSU will be in order then, but right now I can't get BOTH graphics card and PSU (budget constraints). So I need to know what is the highest card my PSU can practically (not theroetically) handle. Any help would be gladly appreciated.

I use a 550w Rosewill Capstone powersupply for my 7850 crossfire setup, and haven't had any issues whatsoever, even when heavily overclocked. However, if I were you I'd really look into a 7950 which can be had (in the US atleast) for almost the same price as the 7870.

But ya, I would think that corsair 450w would be plenty for a single 7850.

Alas, the pricing here in India is quite different, what with the rising dollar and the falling rupee!:\
I could stretch my budget to accomodate a 7870, but a 7950 goes beyond my reach! Thanks for the advice though!
By the way, you say you run a 7850 crossfire setup? Does that mean two 7850's or some other card along with a 7850? Pardon me, i'm still a bit new to this():)

Then I buy double what it says to account for degradation
Thanks, that was really helpful. It shows 320 W and ~300 W for the 7870 and 7850 respectively (at 100% system load), and recommends a 430 watt corsair PSU, so a safety margin of 1.5ish should be ok, right?

Just keep in mind Quality > Qantity to a fairly good degree as far as power supplies. Cheap power supplies seldom produce their exaggerated estimates.

To put your mind at ease, I have a system running on a VS450 with an HD7870 and i5-4670K. It uses about 200W at load, so don't worry, you won't have a problem at all. The HD7850 uses far less power, but yes, you can use a 7870 - it's 20% faster at stock than a 7850, so it might offer you better performance/rupee depending on pricing.

Like Termie said. I for instance use a good quality XFX ( seasonic guts) 550 watt power supply running my 3570k at 4.4ghz and my 7950 at 1150 core and my power supply has plenty of juice left.

You have, sir, believe me!:D:thumbsup:

Which is why I bought a Corsair! True, the VS450 is not 80 bronze certified, but its as good as they go!
the VS series is bottom of the line for a Corsair though. that said it should easily handle your system with a 7850.
