I am building a HTPC that will most likely never go beyond the following max config.
Will a 300W PSU power this OK?

1. Epox 8K3A+ Motherboard
2. AMD XP2200+ most likely underclocked to reduce heat
3. Alpha PAL 8045 Heatsink with low speed fan
4. DVD-ROM
5. 2 Hard Drives MAX
6. ATI Radeon 8500LE
7. Sound Card
8. Capture card

The case has only 4 bays max so if I add a floppy this is the MAX config.
I am leaning towards yes since I have no issues with my 380W with a ton more in it now.
In my other system I have a bunch of high power fans, 5 Hard Drives and 2 Optical drives on that 380.

An Enermax 350 watt power supply would be better for an AMD system. 300 is like the minimum, but its better to be safe then sorry. And theres probably not that much of a price difference between the two.

Yes, I would steer clear of a generic 300w when you are talking about this much hardware.

Definitely. A quality 300w PSU is better than buying a cheap no name 400w or some such size.

Be careful with Enermax and EpoX combined in the same rig. In my experience and over at AMDMB I've been reading there are some problems with voltages on the 5V line with EpoX boards and Enermax PSUs.

What exactly are the problems? Do you have a link? I have an Enermax PSU and a Epox 8k5a2+ and I haven't had much luck with overclocking it, maybe the PSU is the culprit.

Don't have a choice if I buy this case since the PSU cannot be swapped out.
It's a HTPC case that has a specially placed PSU that is supposed to be 300W.
I have no idea who makes the case, but the seller is very reputable.

Have the people tested the voltages with a voltmeter, or are they believing whatever they see in the BIOS/MBM5? If possible, do a reality check with a voltmeter, because the other methods are NOT guaranteed to resemble reality. :(

The overall wattage rating doesn't always tell you enough...I have seen 300W Power Supplies that supply anything from 20A on the +5V line right up to 35A...and that Lite-ON supposedly gives 40A!

So providing it gives 30A then you should just about be okay, although personally I would be looking at 350W/35A.
