Will a 300W PSU be enough?

What's in there now?

Edit: so you are saying it comes with a 300? Had to let that sink it a minute. I don't think a 300 that comes with an HP will get you there. I could see a 350 PC Power and Cooling maybe, but probably not the cheap things companies like HP throw in there.

9800 GTX+ requires two PCIe 6-pin power connectors. The HP 300W PSU probably has none. Turning the PC on without these power cables connected can harm the graphics card, far as I know.

Why would your family member need this card? The integrated 7560D graphics is already pretty good for light gaming. If there's need for an upgrade, get a 6570 to crossfire the 7560D with.

I wouldn't do it. It more than likely lacks the connectors and 12v amp's required anyways for that old power hog.

Also, Why would HP use 10GB of Ram? Seems strange for an OEM to put 2x4GB and 1x2GB in a machine unless its a way to clear out some old 2GB sticks

In selling a pre-built computer to the masses, bigger numbers are often better. That's why you see systems with "odd" amounts of RAM, such as 6GB on platforms we enthusiasts know to be dual channel. Someone sees that sitting next to a 4GB system and will choose the higher number.
