Is it ok if I run my oem 300a at stock 2.0v without heatsink or fan? I'm using it in a new motherboard any my heatsink/fan won't fit. I'll only be running it this way for a week.

Dark4ng3l is right, do NOT even boot it up w/o at least a heatsink on it.

I know you can run p2's, celerys and the like w/o any cooling for a very short while, but why risk it? I'm sure you can get a cheap heatsink for a few dollars.
I'd _give_ you one of my extras if you live in san diego :)

On a side note, the new Durons and Thunderbirds suffer fatal damage if you run them even for a few seconds w/o an HSF.

Compaq is known for some systems where large heatsinks were used on the P2/P3's, and only used the air flow from the power supply go over the HS, and thus, didn't use a fan (quieter/cheaper that way). You can't get away with that with athlons, nor durons.

Cyrix III's on the other hand (the Samuel version)....those don't require a fan, though they still output over 10 watts of heat, and therefore, still get awful toasty without a fan.

umm the compaq's dell's gateway's that dont have a heatsink fan, have a BIG ASS power supply fan right next to the cpu heatsink to suck air through the wings..

Theres some dude that ran his celeron at like the minimum possible speed using like 1.3V to be able to use no heatsink. crazy people. Superglue Anything metal to the chip and that will be okay :)
