Will a 3.0 Gbps drive work in a 1.5 Gbps spec motherboard?

If the motherboard uses a VIA VT8237R or VT8237A Southbridge, you'll need to set the drive for 1.5Gbps compatibility mode by jumper clip or firmware utility (whichever method is provided by the manufacturer). This doesn't apply to VT8237S because it fully supports SATA 3Gbps. Some (not all) boards with the SIS 964 Southbridge also require the drive be set to 1.5Gbps compatibility.

Otherwise, you should be good to plug the drive as-is.

i stuck a seagate 320gb 7200.10 drive (with the compatibility jumper off) into a nforce 3 system (only supports sata-150) with zero issues.
