Will a 20 pin power supply work in this setup for a few days?

I just order parts for a computer and everything is here except for the power supply. I read through the stickie at the top of the page and if anything I am even a bit more confused now. Anyways, here are the relevant specs:

MSI K8N Neo4-F
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
ATI Rosewill x800xl
1 gig of ram
3 case fans, 1 hard drive, 1 optical drive

The thing that I am concerned about is the lack of a power connector on the x800xl and the fact that the Antec Trueblue is only a 20 pin power supply. Like I said earlier, this is only for a few days, and there wont be any gaming or lots of stress put on the computer until the new power supply arrives.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. That's the same PSU I use on my main rig and I OC without problem. Check out my main rig in my signature. I do use a 20 to 24 pin adapter, but I really don't think you need a new PSU.

Well I put everything together yesterday and I couldn't get the system to put out a display. Rike, I think that yours works because the 6600gt draws a lot less power than the x800 xl, plus the adapter might help a little as well. THanks for the replies though and hopefully the fortron blue source 500w gets here soon.

Those extra 4 pins on the 24pin PSU's are used to power the PCI-E bus for things like your X800XL, if you don't have those filled your pretty much screwed if the X800XL doesn't have an external power connector it won't be able to get enough juice from the PCI-E bus w/out a 24pin PSU as it's on the ragged edge of needing a connector.

Some 24-pin motherboards have an extra 4-pin molex on the board that you can use to take the place of the extra 4 pins on the PSU and give the PCIe slot a bit more juice if you are using a 20-pin PSU. That said, looking at the pics of you board it looks like MSI neglected to put that connector on your board so it looks like you probably need to upgrade to a 24-pin. If you do see a molex on your board somewhere near the x16 slot, try plugging in one of your PSU molex connectors (not the FAN ONLY ones, of course) and see if that gives you the juice you need.
