if I have win xp on my system now,,,,could i just download my 98se ,,,would it over write the win xp?,,,i don't know how to reformat 😱

so not knowing how to reformatt i'm stuck,,,any suggestions will be appreciated,,just wondering if my win 98se would over write the xp,,,thx

I doubt win98 will overwrite winxp since win98 is older and you can't install an operating system over another one unless if it was an upgrade. if you have a win98 bootdisk, you can boot to dos prompt and type format c: to format your hard drive.

if you loaded WinXP using the NTSF file system, Win98se will not run. Whether it will replace WinXP is pretty doubtful. It will probably try to setup a dual-boot. There are plenty of tutorials for formatting on Anandtech and on the web. It really is a simple process. This will be the best solution for you.

I had XP on my system for a little while, and decided I wanted to put win98se back on. I just put in the disk and it installed fine, though it did reformat my hard drive to fat32 and wiped out my partition even though my partition in xp was still fat 32. I might depend if you have the 98se upgrade or the full version. I have the full version.
