92mm fans seem to have the CFM/dBA sweet spot I'm looking for, but will they fit in place of th 80mm fans that came with the case? Thanks!

no, not unless you take out the fan holder.....drill a 92mm hole in the place where the old fans were and mount the fan DIRECTLY onto the case. nasty business. if you're desperate to do it, i would recommend drilling some holes into the SIDE or TOP of your case and mounting them there. but it would be tough and wasteful to mount them in the place where your 80mm holders are.

They make adapters, but I haven't seen 80 to 92 anywhere yet. Not sure how much cooling you'd lose or if the adapter would increase the dba at all. Just an idea.

There was a guy on Ars who did it the way xXgambitXx was talking about and he has templates to use that will make it much easier. Apparently it's a tight fit to get two 92mm fans on the back panel. Use search, it was around 9-11 months ago, IIRC. I *think* his nyme was ffieroboy or something like that.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. Looks like a no-go for the 92mm, but mabye the adapter HeroOfPellinor linked to will let me use some really huge 120mm fans :)

You can use double faced heavy duty tape on each corner of the 92MM fans and it works great for holding them in place and you don't have to drill any holes and you can take them out if you like. You do have to take out the 80MM fan holders but the 92MM fans fit in the case great then and the intake holes for the fans are big enough to take advantage of the 92MM fans. I did this to my case and all went well but I didn't see any big difference in case temps but everyone situation is different so it may help you.
