Will 8800GTX work in a 8x slot?

I'd like to put a 8800GTX in a server to work on some custom number crunching.

But the server has a 16x physical slot with 8x electrical lanes - Any one know if this will work?

It should, after all a lot of SLI boards use two physical 16x slots that are electrically 8x.

Depends on the server board. You might want to double check with the board maker. I've seen some newegg reviews of PCIe server slots not working for graphics boards.
