I don't know the exact range for the frame rate, but with CSS and 8800GTS at that resolution, you shouldn't even have the slightest worries.

It will play silky smooth on that card. But for that matter you should be able to play with those settings on your current x1900xt i would think.

You should be able to...because my x1900xt can. My frames are pretty much 90% of the time at 60fps and may take dips down to 40-50 when there's like a billion flashes/smoke grenades going off.

Ummm, I guarantee you won't notice a difference between 60 and 90. If you're truly bent on hitting 100+ then get 8800 Ultra SLI and be done with it.

There also limitations on the number of frames your lcd can keep up with, I remember reading a thread on a long time ago about how the the response time (ms) of your monitor has an effect on the number of fps it can actually display. You might want to look that up before upgrading.

If your getting an average of 60+ now with your 1900 there would be little difference with the 8800, IMO for CS:S. If you need more power for other games then the 8800's are an excellent choice.

Yes, unless all hell is breaking loose...and by that, I mean all hell.

There's always a way to make a game like this cause the framerate to drop. I'm just saying my system flies running up to those settings. 8XAA is where I hit the wall and probably run out of video memory.

The engine can limit the max FPS that you get, you can alter this setting though. In any case, you wont have any issues running anything Source(Max settings) at all. The card memory issue plays a big role when youre working with large resolutions and texture sizes, this isn't a very big thing for the source engine.

I haven't ever watched fps, but i play CS:S @ 2560x1600 4xMSAA/16xAF & it's butter smooth.
And i played it @ 1600x1200 same settings on my X1900 XT just fine, so yeah, an 8800 GTS should be more than fine for that.

anything over 60 and your eyes cant make out the difference. Some people even say anything over 30 and your eyes cant make out the difference.

And anything over the refresh rate of your monitor is def pointless because its impossible for the monitor to even display it!

maxed out I get on 1280x1024 is 280fps average. I would expect you would get 200 fps at 1680x1050.

I usually get around 150 in a normal game. When I'm looking at 30 people all shooting each other and throwing nades and flashbangs on a graphically-intensive map, it'll drop down to anywhere from 50-80 FPS.

I have a 2900xt (oc'd), Q6600 oc'd to 3.4ghz and with all the settings on high I get roughly 200+ FPS at 1680x1050. That includes AF and AA

Running the Video Stress Test puts me at 200. I dont think you will have a problem at all.

Oh, and this is on Vista Home Premium.

I run 1920x1200 4xAA all options on with my X1800XT/939 X2 and it's always been extremely smooth. So you shouldn't have ANY problems at 1680x1050.

CS:S is, for the most, part cpu limited and frame rate entirely depends on what's happening and how many players are on the server. On a 45-50 player server you may only get 50fps at times while you could easily go over 200 on a small 20 player server.

You won't gain much going from a 1900xt to a 8800gts if that is your plan.

You want a screenshot of my 200fps after the test? I will do that tonight.

If you want a screen shot of my posts and join date, go for it :)

I joined to see what good deals were in the for sale section 3 years ago, and never posted hahaha!
