Will 85HZ Refresh Damage My Monitor?

I have a 19" Optiquest V95 monitor.

I bought a Geforce 6800 video card today raised the 60HZ default refresh to the ones available, which included 85Hz.

Will this increase in refresh to 85hz damage my video card or display?.........

Only if your monitor didn't support it, and that one does. The only thing you'll suffer from is reduced flicker, smoother images, and less eyestrain.

85hz is a pretty normal resolution. You could always try using the given "optimal" setting in the list of refresh rates. Your graphics card will give you a maximum refresh rate you can use depending on your resolution which you won't be able to choose higher than. I think drivers for monitors also give you the correct limitations too.

85hz is not a resolution. It is a refresh rate (ie the number of times the image is drawn on your monitor in a second).

85 is considered the standard.

My monitor supports it but it squeals. I guess i should be looking out for a new monitor eh ? (Made in like '94 19"KDS Visual Sensations)

85Hz doesn't damage your monitor and it is highly recommended that you set it on.

I have to setmine to 60Hz ive tryed 70, 72, and 75 and they all drive my eyes nuts (my viewsonic a90f+ wont do anything higher than 75Hz according to windows) Viewsonic says it will do 80 at 12x10 but i dont care to mess with it since im getting a new lcd for christmas (Viewsonic VP912B)

ice024, what's your graphic's card? It's probably that that's limiting the refresh rate.

I also have a 19" Optiquest V95 monitor. It's on my secondary rig and I have always had it running at 85hz (with both a 9800 Pro before and a 6800NU now) with no problems.

how about 100hz? too much to notice difference even the monitor supports it?
