The battery life on my Galaxy S III is brilliant. 4G draw is barely more than WiFi draw.

I bought a 2660mah 3.8 volt battery for my gs3 and running latest cm10 rom with custom kernal and settting max cpu speed of 1200 and I get 4 hours of on screen time and about 23hours total and use the phone alot and that is with NO WIFI ON and just 4g.

I got about 3 hours screen on with the stock battery. With wifi on and limited 4g I can prabably break 5 hours screen time.

the gs3 has the latest 4g modem from qualcom and its built into the cpu and its made on a smaller node so its getting amazing battery life.

That is the reason samsung didnt put the quadcore into it as its a step behind in the node shrinks and would need a sep chip for the modem

Yes and "soon" are the answers to your questions. Qualcomm's moving all their basebands and whatnot to 28nm, which will help battery life quite a bit. Expect to see it in the next iPhone.

It already has. Just make sure it uses the smaller process node from Qualcomm. Galaxy S3 has it and LTE battery life is great. Galaxy Nexus does not and LTE can be a blood sucker.

My personal SGS3 on tmobiles "4G" I can get a full 24hrs on it as it is always on 4g. And I use it quite a lot.

My job issued Verizon Razr on "4G LTE" I am lucky if I can make it through the workday without it needing a charge in the middle of the day. I chalk it up to verizon's horrible lte in NYC. The razr is rarely higher than a bar or 2 on lte and most of the time its on 3g. I assume the battery is dying fast just try to search for 4g lte.

Umm, thats a lot of power actually. And less speed to boot.

As for the OP: Every time we improve battery technology they use that as an excuse to cram more shit in a phone or make it faster. Battery life stays the same or goes down a tad. As phones get more useful people are more tolerant of them needed recharging.
Back in the King Nokia days they tended to last better part of a week.

Sounds about right.

The biggest difference coning from the nexus is that the gs3 doesn't get super hot while using 4g like the nexus did.

I used to have to use WiFi when ever I could with it and the thing would get super hot while surfing the net.on the gs3 its complete opposite and its cool to the touch using 4g all day.

I have everything on now like GPS,push email,Facebook etc and get a whole day on the gs3 where on the nexus I would have to shut down everything and still worry if my cell would die heading out most nights

That's funny as my gs3 has the longest battery life of any cell phone I've ever used and its lighter and faster to boot.

I just scored 5700+ in quadrant and get 35-40mb download speeds in 4g throughout the whole day.

The s4 chip set put everything on the soc and increased speed and battery life big time

The new iPad 4G contains Qualcomm's MDM9x00 Baseband
by Brian Klug on 3/8/2012 1:08:00 AM
Posted in Tablets , iPad , MDM9600 , iOS

A while back we speculated that Apple would use Qualcomm's 28nm MDM9615 basband for future iDevices with 4G LTE. The part made logical sense at the time, in part because of its 28nm process and compatibility with all the relevant air interfaces. Now that the restore .ipsw images have been posted and are available for download, I took a peek inside and did a little bit of forensics. It turns out that Apple has gone with Qualcomm's MDM9600, and has given the device codename Maverick (as opposed to Trek for MDM6610). This part still contains UE Category 3 LTE, CDMA2000 1x/EVDO Rev.A (and B), GSM/EDGE, and WCDMA/HSPA+ all the way through DC-HSPA+ 42 Mbps. It's a 45nm 13x13mm part we've seen in numerous other 4G LTE devices thus far.

Wifi uses less power than cellular. In a lot of cases 4G is faster than most people's wifi.
