Will 350W be enough?

I'm afraid to ask this because I already know the answer. I'm upgrading from a 3000+ XP, 9800 pro, 2 HD system to an X2 4200, X1900 GT system. Will my Antec 350W PS be able to hold this beast down? It's the PS that came or comes with the Sonata case. It's certainly been rock solid so far.

If not, could someone recommend a cheap, quiet PS that would work? I'm not overclocking or anything, I just care about stability, volume, and price.

even though that is a solid psu, that video card itself is quite a power hog. it should work, but its not good running a psu at full capacity for the reason that it dramatically reduces the life of the psu. if you're talking about the 380W psu from antec in the sonata, you should be able to run it fine. the sontata only comes iwth a 380W psu or a 480W smartpower. I recommend at least a 450W smartpower for your rig.

Go here for a general idea.

I have made it a policy to not suggest PSUs... my suggestions almost always get flamed. It is a very passionate subject around here.

I had a non sli rated 500W PSU and it didn't work for my X1900XT, wasn't powerful enough. I had to get an SLI rated 500W PSU before the PC would boot. The X1000 class cards are power hogs, and you will need an SLI rated PSU to run it.

Froogles at $60. Enhance ENP-5140GH(400W), 12V combined=28A. 80Plus certed.

lol Galvanized hates Antec BTW. 😉

I didn't have any problems with my older Antec PSU, but I did stay away from them with my newest build because, honestly, they are having quite a few QC problems.

I wouldn't guarantee your current PSU will work, but I would give it a try until you actually find out it won?t work (frequent crashes), or it dies on you.

I didn't know johnnyguru was reviewing the enhance 5140gh, that will be interesting! That is the psu I'm planning on, and I have about the same specs as you. How long have you had the psu. Antec's depreciate faster than some of the higher end psu's.

VERY interesting review.

Hopefully I'll have it up over the weekend. My wife got a job at another school and I need to help her move her stuff from one classroom to another tomorrow, so I'm not sure how much time I'll have to type up the review. But all of the data is collected and the photos taken.
