Will 2019 bring a low profile and low power single-slot card with 4K Netflix support?

I know we can't necessarily predict the future, but I'm wondering if you guys think it is reasonable to expect 2019 to bring a low power and low profile single slot card that will have full 4K and DRM support for Amazon Prime and Netflix.

The reason I ask is currently the low profile single-slot GT 1030 cards with 2 GB, which are about the top of the line for low profile / low power / single-slot cards in the consumer market, do not support Netflix 4K.

It seems the minimum is effectively GT1050 with 4 GB RAM, which isn't exactly cheap for just a video playback upgrade, and which are all dual-slot.

GT 1030 does have HEVC and supports HDMI 2 and 2.2, while 2GB of vram, at least GDDR 5 is sufficient to easily stream 4k. The issue is DRM, it seems GT 1030 fails at supporting DRM content and thus Netflix won't stream 4k to unrecognized GPU's and devices.

There are RX 550 who are low profile and go for around $90, that is a solid alternative for the GT 1030, though no single slot RX 550's.

Once we have the new generation of cards, its likely that Nvidia and AMD will release low power cards, just like they have in the past. Just don't expect them anytime soon, probably Q3 2019.

There is the Radeon Pro WX2100/3100 which is Polaris 12 based. I don't know if it would support Netflix, but since you can load the normal "gaming" Catalyst driver (which does have support for PlayReady 3.0), it is just perhaps possible.

Perhaps one who has either could test for us?

Alternately, the minimum requirement is the new 3GB GT1050.

Q3 2019? Ouch.

It seems strange that Nvidia wouldn’t implement the DRM in the 1030. I have no desire for a gaming card at all but a lot of use for a streaming media card that is small and sips power.

It may just make more sense to get a new Core i3 machine in 2020. Hmmmm....

I hear ya. It's almost like NVidia doesn't want to sell cards at the low end, and would prefer that people replace their entire systems, with a CPU with an Intel iGPU for Netflix 4K DRM support.

Am I missing something? Just buy a roku or stand alone device and plug it into your monitor.. lol
Less power, even more low profile, and cheaper : https://www.roku.com/products/streaming-stick-plus
