Will 2 gigs of memory be overkill

I am running an Asus A8nsli with win xp. I have 1 gigs of memory will 2 megs speed me up or will it be overkill.
I use my computer for video editing and games...

I hope its not megs. 🙂 2gb is kinda overkill imo but to each his own. I have 1gb and do everything from Photoshop, MAYA, dvd encoding, and gaming. I have no problems with my 1gb.

Gigs right 😉

Memory is important for video editing, mostly for Multiplexing where the video and audio is loaded into ram and combined, for games it can be important to preload large maps and textures etc so load times are decreased

2G can't hurt but it wont make games run incredibly faster thats mostly up to the video GPU and CPU and the connection speed between the two

For you maybe.

Some of us actually use our PCs 😉

Don't even start to try to say that games don't use more than 1 GB.

It's been proven many newer games do, & they run far more smoothly with 2 GB than w/o...

Xbitlabs just had an article I think. Anyway it showed that 2gb was very helpful in reducing load times during games and keeping the fps average since it doesn't slow down as much reexchanging another gig info. Multitasking the 2gigs are often more useful.

I can speak from personal experience running World of Warcraft and Everquest 2gb makes a difference over 1gb. In World of Warcraft, there it is very noticeable in raids and cities. Also I run WoW in full screen windowed mode, so again 2gb made a big difference there. In EQ2 the difference is huge between 1gb and 2gb. Eq2 is a memory hog. Huge difference in cities.

I don't know about games, but 2GB definitely helps in Photoshop with high res (10MP) raw images, or 130MB+ film scans. I wouldn't want to be without, and would rather have 4GB, if only I could also run XP64 to take advantage of it.
