Hello,

I've read several articles that weren't clear to me if there would be 12TB Barracuda Pros this year. I realize there are the 12TB Helium enterprise drives but I'm interested in 12TB Barracuda Pros if possible.

Wow had no idea they were planing anything this big. Does it use SMR though? If not, that would be awesome to upgrade some of my older raid arrays in my file server. 6-8 of those in raid 10 would be pretty sexy.

They have 10TB Barracuda Pros that supposedly are very fast - about half the speed of a 2015 SSD - which is impressive. I'm upgrading from 8TB HGST and would love feedback - heat, power, reliability - anything. I thing HGST just released a 12TB HE unit as well.

Damn and these don't use SMR? That's crazy they are getting that kind of density now. It makes sense it would be faster too, as for each revolution you have that much more data passing by the head at a given RPM.

I think that they are not strictly "SMR drives", but I think that they use SMR, along with a sort of tiered storage, that also involves a chunk of NAND. So they don't call them "SMR" drives anymore. Nor do they call them SSHDs or Hybrid drives.

I may just end up going HGST HE10. I really need them to run as cool as possible and it is hard to find much info on that topic.

You have 32!!!??? I only have 16 in my home system - but I need more space for my backup so I'm going to have to build another "server" so I think I might as well give myself a little more space and go to HE10's or 12s.

Yessir, albeit split among two redundant servers (literally "RAID1" of the entire server down to the RAM, motherboard, HBA, etc. :p )

Nice! That is somewhat like I'll be doing although it won't truly be. I have RAID5 on one and I'll be copying it over frequently the changes from the main pc to the other. I had been doing it to two PCs with 32TB arrays but both are pretty much full so I'll just build another BIG pc to hold my movies and TV shows. I'm wanting to put an LSI in my next PC but if they drag their feet on the new 16i (as they have for the past 2 years) I may just get an adaptec again. The only thing that gives me hope is that they finally have a product on their website although it isn't shipping and there is no ETA on their site.
