Wil BF4 and Titanfall satisfy my need for FPS action?

I must be getting old here. I have been thinking about how much I miss Quake 2 grappling hooks and power ups, and Duke Nukem rocket-launcher, jet pack, and trip mine filled 1:1, 4:4, 8:8 matches. I remember the days of screaming at the screen as I tracked the last 2 guys of an 8:8 Last Man Standing match hunting each other down and thinking gaming could not possibly get better.

Seems like that style of game play is a thing of the past, never to return. I recently had an evening off (first one in about 6 months) and was looking for a little FPS action, but it seems there may be nothing comparable. The team-based games are great, but they just don't give you that same feeling of individual participation. Is there anything out there or currently in the works or is FPS style action gone?

Titanfall looks interesting, but I get the feeling that it will just be Call of Duty with mechs and jet packs. Frankly, I don't want load-outs in my FPS games. I want to go and find the guns just like I did in Quake and Unreal Tournament! I always favored the rocket launcher, but it can be really nerve rattling to run into a guy when all you've managed to pick up is the Bio Gun. :p

There are a lot of us who wish there was a good deathmatch type FPS game available. Unfortunately there is not. Having to try and find a good weapon, and controlling areas of a map so enemy cannot get the weapon/armor was fantastic.

I watched plays of it, and basically Titanfall just looks like another CoD/Battlefield clone. Meh.

They need to get rid of the "exp" building multiplayer expansive world on a large team that means jack all unless you have a set group of people you play with FPS's. It's not fun...at all... even though millions of sheep disagree with me, they are all wrong.

What's worse they are building them around consoles which should be banned from FPSs to begin with. Those aren't real FPS players.

As an old school gamer and Quake2 with grapple and runes CTF lover, and original BF42 fan, have to agree.. there have been some good innovations. But far to many things that do not improve the game. The second Rock/paper/scissors was removed and replaced with "the more you play (or pay) the more you get the games lost their way. Titanfall=BF2042 already been done to very so-so results.. If i wanted to drive mechs MECHWARRIOR is already out and done pretty dang good.

Titanfall almost looks too complex to play. I'm curious how people will be able to smoothly do all the stuff they show in the gameplay videos.

Anyone who relates Titanfall to CoD - there's a reason.

It's been developed BY the old Infinity Ward devs. The pacing looks phenomenal, and if anything, it'll be better than the POS Ghosts has been.

If you want a good DM/TDM game, look at Rise of the Triad 2013.

haven't played Ghosts, but its almost got great scores in reviews.. whats wrong with it? Rise, im sorry, really blew (and again scores showed it). Now please don't take it wrong, Reviews are all pretty much skewed nowdays (be it so they get a review copy or money).. but 80+ across pretty much all reviews.. you cant pay am all off.

But i think this whole thread is about being sick of the cookie cutter MOH/COD/BF games that have came out the last 6 years (which Im sure Ghosts follows closely).. New paint, new cut scenes, same old gameplay.

The only gameplay that Titanfall seems to follow from CoD is how fast it is, much more of a twitcher than say, BF4. The two games would cover your bases pretty well.

As for Ghosts, I still have terrible performance on a 3570k, 660Ti and 16GB of RAM. Stutters like no tomorrow in MP.
