A family member is on wikipedia and wants his article deleted since he is a private (not public) person.

1. Looking around that horribly designed website, is there any contact information for them to take his name off?

2. I know that he has the right to his name and other personal information. Does anyone know his legal options in case they do not take it down? Will probably have to turn this over to a lawyer but thought it wise to know all options before I even contact them in his name.

Where's the article? Just because he's a "private" person doesn't make it "private" information.

Wikipedia has a good design and it's one the of the best internet projects.

What does that mean exactly? What "right" to a name does he have? Who granted him this "right"? Do I have to file somewhere to get the "rights" to a name?

He does not have the right to delete publicly obtained information about him. Sorry. Information about him is not his property.

PRIVATE information is posted on there.

AND NOBODY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO SIMPLY POST PRIVATE INFORMATION ON A WEBSITE LIKE THIS!!!!!

He doesn't get to decide what's private. If this "private" information was obtained legally, people can stick it on a billboard if they want. You can't tell people not to divulge your personal information.

Actually you guys are wrong. It is against intellectual property law!

Intellectual Property Interests: Right of Publicity
?he has the right to control the publicity of his name, likeness, voice, or image
?the publisher needs to get permission
?false depiction not allowed!!
?exceptions are only for newsworthy events
?The is no 1st Amendment Protection if depiction is literal

Therefore, only if you are a "public person" your private information might be deemed newsworthy - only then the information would be in the public domain.

😀

I can understand why you dont want to give us a link, but without telling us specifically what information is posted there is no way to know if you are justified in wanting it removed.
