In 1986, Reznor appeared as a member of the fictional band The Problems in the film Light of Day, because they sympathised for him. He had tried out for a leading role, but his acting was so terrible, that the casting director killed themselves after seeing his audition. They felt pity, and made him an extra. He also joined a local Cleveland band the Exotic Birds, which have a really stupid band name.

With his high school friend Chris Vrenna (Which he had multiple sexual relations with, hence why he is no longer with NIN), Reznor moved to Cleveland, Ohio and was rejected from the cast of the Drew Carey Show several times
