Wii will be $249

Wonderful news.

My streak of owning every Nintendo console ever created will not vanish this generation.

The sad thing is that price was basically what I heard is the highest that Nintendo would even consider for the console, thus meaning that they were seriously considering selling it for less (there were several developers who were convinced a sub $200 price was going to happen). Looks like the hype and competition's pricing has given Nintendo the best price for them on it.

Granted there's more to it than that (you know, the quality of the games), but I feel almost ripped off on the hardware. So, they take the chips that they used in the Gamecube, do die shrinks to them (which should make them less expensive to manufacture, lowering their cost there), add a small amount of flash memory and a few other marginal components (wireless chips), and then even lower the amount of actual material they use to make a system, and then charge 2.5 times what they were for the Gamecube?

I have to give them credit though, its a very smart move. I'm not one to fault a company for maximizing their profit. I don't think its fair to act like Nintendo is really doing anyone but themselves any favors here though. This isn't even taking into account the money they're going to rake in from reselling (yet again in a lot of instances) old games.

My point is that, people try to make it sound like Sony and Microsoft are screwing the consumer selling their systems at the prices they are, which I'm not really arguing, however so many of the same people try and make it sound like Nintendo is a saint and is the only one that cares about the consumer. The fact is, none of them care about the consumer any more than any competitive business does. Their object is to make money, and so they make products that they think will allow them to do this.

by saying "below 250" doesn't that mean it can still be 200? By the way, slightly wrong forum to post this. All good though

Most of the time they say under a certain price, it means they're doing the old, x.99 is under (x+1).00

It sounds like they're probably going to try to add content to justify the extra it will cost here, possibly by bundling in maybe the "nunchuk" add-on or a game, or maybe some free downloads.

Thats another thing that bothers me, is that it sounds like they're going to make a ton of different attachments for the controller and that for every other game we'll have to have a special thing to play it properly. That was one legacy I didn't mind becoming unpopular after the demise of the Dreamcast.

I think the more interesting number is 250,000 yen

Game systems rarely sell for more in the US than in Japan

But if you convert 250,000 yen to american dollars using the 120 day high and low exhange rates you get a range of

208-225 american dollars

maybe Nintendo will snag the extra cash, but then again, they seem to aim for 199.99 price tag in the US

I agree with 250 being too much

199.99 I'll buy it. ALso i want to know about this online emulator stuff. Can't wait for that, i been using an old computer hooked to my TV to do something like this, but if i can put it in all one box this will be great and if the games cost 1 dollar or less each (the old NES and SNES i mean)

and the PS3, I'll buy it when it goes down to 300.

Dang...I thought Nintendo said they were never gonna go above $200 because they have never sold a console above $200...

Was expecting it to be $199, but eh...might actually wait on it a short bit unless I can get a deal on one.
