Wii vs. PS3... decide for me

If you have an HDTV consider a ps3, not much point if not.
Also can you honestly say you want it to do anything other than play games?

Depends on what you want.

If you have HDTV and if you are interested in blu-ray then the PS3 is a reasonable price, in addition you can play your old PS2 games. If blu-ray isn't of interest that makes the PS3 overpriced for what you want.

If you believe graphics are of paramount importance a Wii will disappoint. If you believe gameplay/fun is the most important aspect either might work. Nintendo is pushing hard for new ideas and concepts where PS3 is mostly more of the same (though the sixaxis controller might help it break some molds).

I'd say if money isn't an object, you can get your hands on either, and the best in graphics doesn't matter it comes down to franchises you are interested in.

Zelda, Mario, Smash bros, retro gaming NES, SNES, N64, genesis go for a Wii.
FF, GT, MGS(maybe? I dont' really know), GTA go for a PS3.

For me since I don't have an HDTV and love the zelda games and retro gaming I'm going for a Wii. But either will be a decent system out of the gate.

That said, since money is no object... you might want to get your stuff together and start camping now to get a PS3. If camping or paying exorbitant rates on eBay don't appeal to you, but you absolutely must have a new console this Christmas, get the Wii.

i just played the ps3 at the sony style store...nba 07 was awesome, great gfx and the gameplay was good too...i also tried a little bit of this dirt bike game...it was ok, graphics were really good, but the controls dint suit me.

i'm going to get a ps3 as soon as its freely available...the features availaable for 600 bucks make it definetely worth it for me.

Basically it comes down to how much you care about graphics and high definition resolutions. I think we've reached the point where graphics aren't a hindrance to creating better games, as it was in the past. Higher resolution is great and all, but as long as it's just used to provide greater detail rather than to show more stuff on screen, then it really fits in the same category as better graphics.

It's a good price for what you get, but what if you would be content with less? Right now, Blu-Ray and high definition resolutions are useless to most people, because most people don't have an HDTV. If Sony is looking to corner 15% of the market, kudos to them. That worked really well for the Neo-Geo. People bash Sony and the PS3 because Sony gives them so many good reasons to bash them! Starting with their constant lies. It's not a fad, it's warranted.

ps3 for expensive price (compared to 360 and wii), ability to play ps2/ps1 games, but expensive addons. blu-ray, superior graphics and connections (hdmi), 1080p support, etc.

wii for zelda, cheaper price, ability to play GC games, fun, complete motion sensing.

i personally would go for a wii now, and a ps3 next year.

I wouldn't go that far, the PS2 was incredibly popular, and brand loyalty counts for a lot.

Consider my brother, who I'd consider to be a typical non-avid gamer. He badly wants a PS3 for Christmas, but my parents just don't understand how difficult it will be for them to get him one. I mentioned to him that the Blu-Ray drive wouldn't do him much good since he doesn't have an HDTV. His response was "What's Blu-Ray?" He doesn't know anything about the system, but he badly wants it, because it's the next Playstation. And it'll have Final Fantasy. Now he wants an HDTV for Christmas

Yeah, you can get a Wii and deck it out with games and extras (controllers/memory/whatever) for the initial cost of the PS3. Of course make sure you're going to have games you'll want to play on either system before you choose.
