Wii video issue

I haven't used my Wii for a good 3-4 months due to work and other more important stuff eating all my free time. I fired up Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess a couple days ago, and I got these odd green specks everywhere, almost like a 'crawling pixel'. I tried different games (Wii Sports, Rayman, Mario Galaxy), swapped the component cables, and tried different component inputs on my LCD; but, the issue still remains.

Video of issue (approx 10MB)

I've had the console for about a year and a half, and never had any issues with it until now. Has anyone else had this happen? Am I SOL in getting a warranty repair on this?

Its a problem with the GPU in the Wii. I've read that leaving WiiConnect24 on can sometimes cause this with some systems. Your only option is to send it to Nintendo for repair. If its out of warranty they charge around $75 to repair it. You do get a 1 year warranty on the repaired/refurbished system when you get it back.

That's not so bad. It has been running WiiConnect24 during that inactivity. I just kept shutting off the blue flashing disc ring. Thanks, guys.

Yep. Blayze already answered your issue. I believe it's because the wireless NIC is located right next to the GPU. Running WiiConnect24 all the time will overheat and damage the GPU.

This is what I've heard too. I've always left it disabled since it doesn't do anything other than tell you when you have an update/message. Although one of my friends has had a Wii since the first of 2007 and leaves WiiConnect24 on all the time. He hasn't had any problems, but his system gets used daily (wife, kids, etc...).

Aquila76 make sure when you call Nintendo to set up a repair that you tell them you want your Wii Shop/Virtual Console/WiiWare/etc... saved. That way you want loose your downloaded/saved games since you can't transfer them to another system.

Ah yeah, good idea. It would suck to replay the last 30+ hours of Zelda again. Well, not really; but, I don't have that kind of time.
