Woohoo! Just got this in yesterday and it looks great. It's setup perfectly for the 3DS XL.

Woot.

Better on a DSi XL though. Full screen native resolution with no scaling or letter boxing.

3DS has higher resolution = scaling or postage stamp.

I have no idea where you're shopping, but very few DS games are going to be anywhere near $40 anymore, unless they're very rare or collectable. Go to Amazon and basically every DS game worth playing can be had between $5-$25.

3DS is slightly different, but.....it's brand new, and plenty of deals can be found for below $40.

Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 4 (possibly, haven't looked at them since I preordered them both new)

Pokemon Soulsilver and Heartgold (complete), Avalon Code, Black Sigil, Radiant Historia, plenty of $40+ DS games.

Also many $5-10 games can become $30+ complete with case, book, all inserts including posters and registration cards, etc.

I'm less than 2 dozen away from completing my DS collection woot.

All RPGs and quality first party titles, not complete library (no Hanna Montanna, Spongebob, Madden, Call of Doodoo etc). Have pretty much every DS game by Square, Atlus, NamcoBandai, NIS, etc. Eg all the ones that matter.

Recently acquired Dragon Quest IV for $12 CIB yay.

Still looks good even with the scaling. Plus I got it for $15 and it came in perfect shape. :)

I'm so glad I got the game though. My 3DS XL has been feeling neglected ever since my mom & aunt picked it up for me 7 months ago. It was a life saver since I was unable to move much from kidney surgery.

After you mentioned Final Fantasy IV I started checking it out. Looks like it might be the next on my list to get once I beat Chrono Trigger.

This thread is bad.....very bad. My wife is going to kill me.

Its THE definitive Final Fantasy and JRPG gold standard for me, and the DS version is very well done.

As someone who is about to turn 30, how are the Pokemon games? I remember playing a copy of my cousins on his Gameboy color back in the day and it wasn't to bad. Are the new ones pretty "kiddy"?

Don't know anything about Pokemon but your next DS game soon should be Radiant Historia.

Its every bit as good as any Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger but its actually a native DS game and not just a simple 15 yr old game ported.

They are largely the same. Very simple RPGs. The new ones x&y that are coming out will have more advanced stuff. They will add skill trees and such to allow you more advanced growth of your pokemon rather than just "you learn this move at lv10"

What about Fire Emblem? I played the demo and enjoyed it, I just hate that it's $40.

The Pokemon games are great. Accessible to kids, but there is a lot more complexity hidden under the hood. A simple, fun RPG that appeals on both the front of leveling you pokemon up to become stronger as well as collecting a bunch of them.

I usually get at least 120 hours from a pokemon game.

I grew up on Pokemon, the original Red and Blue titles as well as the cartoon show and card games. I'm 27 and picked up a 3DS back in June and White 2 as well. They're a fun RPG, they only tend to be "kiddy" because the main character is a tween, instead of middle aged and carrying around a sword the size of the Sears Tower (Willis Tower, whatever).
