Wii Technical Questions

I FINALLY got a Nintendo Wii, and I have a couple questions about it. First, whenever I use the remote to turn off the console, the LED on the system stays green even though I hear it shut down; it nevers goes to the orange WiiConnect24 standby mode, and I have to hold the power button on the console for it to turn red meaning it's all the way off. I've tried holding the power button on the remote, but it just has the same effect as if I tapped the button.

Second, I was trying to play a Wii game earlier (Zelda to be specific) and the system made a few clicking noises and then an error message came on screen telling me to take out the disc, turn off the system and start over. I did this and everything works fine now, but could this have been damaging to the system? I have the console laying horizontally, and up until now it was slightly raised on one side because I have the gamecube accessory slots open, and I just took those all the way off so it sits flat now.

Thanks for any input!

1. Have you associated it with an access point and enabled WiiConnect24 mode in the system settings menu?
2. Probably caused by the lopsided angle - optical drives don't like doing that. Put it flat horizontal or break out the stand.
3. Welcome to Wii Crew :p

has anyone had problems with corrupt saves on GC memory cards used in the wii?

One time my Mario Kart Doubel Dash save got corrupted and another time my Paper Mario (older GC version) got corrupted.

I corrupted an entire GC memory card (wouldn't read or write) after loading up some Action Replay codes (it amazingly went back to normal the next day after I'd already ordered a replacement). Never had individual saves get randomly corrupted though.

I heard Nintendo is replacing the Zelda:TP discs because of errors that pop up. I can't remember where the link is.
