Wii Sensor Bar questions

No Idea why it got locked, we were alll just discussing how we thought the Sensor bar worked, no one said/linked anything untoward, so who knows... Did a mod's finger slip?

I read at IGN or some game site that it determines the controller's position in 3D space. Probably helps make the captured motions more accurate or something. I'm no physicist. Leave me alone.
