You don't need anything special besides an external drive and a wii equipped with the appropriate software. I believe you do need a partition set aside on the drive for it though. I don't use it, but one of my friends does.

Here's a video he made of the UI:

is running my legit wii games off iso's on an external HDD because its faster and I hate switching the dvd's all the time considered piracy now?

So funny that people feel the need to lie, even in the anonymous environment known as the internet.

You guys do a disservice to society by stealing. Don't lie and say you're just 'backing up' software you purchased.

Never did I say I didnt pirate games, I merely stated thats its easy to use such a thing for legal purposes

and I do have my most played games on my HDD, because loading disc's is annoying and heaven forbid someone fucks one up, the game company is going to tell me to go F myself and buy a new one if I ask for a replacement

so funny you only see what you want in other peoples posts

To the OP

AT is not the best place to have this discussion due to people like dari and hippiekiller who cant stay out of threads they dont like, you should post/read over at www.wiihacks.com

"Only a thief thinks everyone steals." You lowlives should be ashamed. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to want to run a game off of a hard drive instead of off the disc you morons. Have you ever installed a game on your computer or Xbox 360?

Hate being a buzz kill, but isn't enabling Piracy disallowed here?

The policy, as explained to me, is that discussions on how to mod consoles are allowed. What is not is allowed is how to obtain software without paying for it.

I'm sure there are legitimate reasons but the problem is what's everybody thinking but not saying. 'Back-up' is usually code for pirating. You can flail around about your rights and convenience and all but we all know what you'll be doing with that HDD. I find it interesting that people love 'backing-up' their games but hate the idea of downloading games only from services like XBOX Live or PSN. I guess those are too convenient, right:rolleyes:?

um I have a huge steam library, but I would prefer to have it both physically on a disc and digitally on my drive. then I toast a xbox or pc hdd I can more easily get it back/prove I legitamately own it.

You can flail around trying to come up with reasons to post but the fact is that you aretrolling up a thread because you think its all about priacy and you dont like it

I have a modded several PS2's to load games off a hard drive, and it has made the whole experience MUCH nicer. Boot, select a game, and go. Discs are a PITA.

Once you get your Wii modded with an external drive, post your thoughts. I don't have a Wii, but if I get one this would be one of the first things I'd do.

For everyone else, go threadcrap someplace else. Why do you CARE what he does with his modifications? It's not against the rules here to talk about modding, and it doesn't hurt you in any way. We have overclockers here too, do you bitch about that?

I don't know about XBOX but PC and PS3 are extremely easy to backup. I'm assuming, being the angel that you are, that you will promptly delete the software once you sell it or will restrain yourself from not 'trying it out' before you buy it?

just google USB loader for the wii lots of tutorials.

Its the best thing for the Wii, I have all my games ripped to a external HD, very easy to navigate for my kids. I no longer have to worry about my kids scratching the disc, not returning it in the protective sleeve or case, no more flipping thru cd casees looking for games.

Very convenient and easy to backup your games.
