ive had my wiiconnect24 on since launch...nothing wrong has happened to it. in fact, ive left it on pause with smash bros melee for a couple of days now...no worries.

Leaving it on pause is vastly different from leaving it on standby. The fan will kick on in the former situation but not the latter (at least with older firmwares).

Yeah, it is noticeably cooler without standby on, although I've had it that way lying flat since launch without a problem. I turned it off because as of right now, its basically entirely worthless to leave it on. The only purpose I've ever seen it serve is to give you a blue light to tell you when a firmware update is available. And I'm assuming thatll happen anyway once you turn it on?

Same. I keep mine on Wiconnect all the time with no major heat problems.
